Fit Foods for Personal Fitness

With so many fad diets out there, it’s difficult to know which one is the healthiest or which one will keep you in the best shape. Some experts say skip those fad diets altogether and create your own with the foods you like. But first, you need to know what foods are the “power players.” Here are the best foods to keep you fit

Fruits

On the top of the list of fit foods are blueberries. They’re rich in antioxidants, which means they’re cancer-fighters. You can substitute with tomatoes, peppers and broccoli, which are also rich in antioxidants.

Vegetables

Next, grab the greens. Leafy greens are essential to everyone’s diet, they’re rich in vitamins, they’re high in fiber, and they’re important in helping to fight against cancers and heart disease. Plus, they’re essentially calorie free, so load up on them at lunch and supper.

Fish, Nuts, and Seeds

Also, don’t forget the fish. Sardines, tuna, and salmon are the best choices. Fish as well as nuts and sesame, sunflower and pumpkin seeds provide you with essential fatty acids (EFAs) which are “good” fat that your body needs daily. Walnuts, pecans, and almonds are your healthiest choices for nuts, but limit the portion size to a handful. Add to this category eggs, especially the yokes. Both parts of the egg contain protein but only the yoke has the EFAs you need plus iron and vitamins A, D, E, Biotin and Choline not found in the egg whites, so have a couple (of yokes) a day!

Others

Other key foods include garlic, organ means (liver), lean meats, brussels sprouts, whole grains, beans, seafood/shellfish, and sweet potatoes. Once you know what foods you should consume, it will be easier to choose the right foods at mealtimes and get fit!
